NEW DELHI: Minutes after Sonam (13), a sixth standard student of Army Public School (APS), Dhaula Kuan, was declared dead in the accident, her parents were seen leaving the hospital in a Maruti van. One could only hear the agonising cries of Sonam’s mother who was way beyond consolation.
APS Dhaula Kuan principal, NO Scaria later informed that Sonam was the oldest child of Vijender Singh, employed as hawaldar in the Army.
"She has two younger siblings," he said.
"Parents of other students have been sent back to their home. They cannot stay back at the hospital," explained S S Dubey, manager, administration at APS Dhaula Kuan.
Bhaswati Ghosh, whose six-year-old daughter Manaswini sustained injuries in her chin said: "I don’t know what impact this accident will have on Manaswini’s psychology. She is in a state of shock and is not talking to anyone."
She said she would not send her daughter to school for few days. "I will never be comfortable with the idea of letting her travel in a school truck. But we don’t have many alternatives either," Ghosh added.
Scaria said: "This is the first time that our school truck has been involved in an accident. I hope the parents are convinced that this is an aberration."
